Educational Qualification
Fresher Category
- Fitter, Painter & Welder: 10th Class passed with minimum 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system or equivalent.
- MLT – Radiology, Pathology & Cardiology: 12th Class passed with minimum 50% marks with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Ex-ITI Category
Candidates applying under the Ex-ITI category must have passed the required educational qualification and must possess ITI qualification in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI along with the required NCVT/SCVT certificate.
- Fitter, Machinist, MMV, Turner, Diesel Mechanic, Carpenter, Painter, Welder (G&E), Wireman, Advance Welder, Plumber, Draughtsman (Civil), Instrument Mechanic, Mechanic R&AC, Gas Cutter, MMTM and Structural Welder.
- Electrician: 10th with minimum 50% marks and Science as one of the subjects + relevant ITI.
- Electronics Mechanic: 10th with minimum 50% marks with Science including Physics and Chemistry and Mathematics + relevant ITI.
- Secretarial Assistant & Stenographer (English): 12th pass + relevant ITI.
- ICTSM: 10th pass + relevant ITI.
- COPA/PASSA: 10th with minimum 50% marks + National Trade Certificate in COPA.
Note: Minimum 50% marks in 10th is not applicable to SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
Age Limit
Candidates should have completed 15 years of age as on the date of notification and should not have completed:
- 22 years: Fresher Category
- 24 years: Ex-ITI and MLT Category
Upper age relaxation is applicable as follows:
- OBC-NCL: 3 years
- SC/ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- PwBD + OBC-NCL: 13 years
- PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years

Stipend

During the second year of apprenticeship training, the prescribed minimum stipend will increase by 10%. A further 15% increase will be applicable during the third year.
Selection Process
Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026 selection will be based on a Merit List prepared from the marks obtained by eligible candidates.
- Fresher: Matriculation marks will be converted to 200 marks.
- Ex-ITI: Matriculation marks will be converted to 100 marks and ITI marks to 100 marks. Both will be given equal weightage.
- MLT: Higher Secondary marks will be converted to 200 marks.
- Eligible shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification.
- Medical fitness requirements must also be satisfied.
